Description
KPV is a tripeptide with the sequence Lys-Pro-Val, corresponding to residues 11-13 at the C-terminus of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH). Published work has characterized anti-inflammatory activity that appears largely separable from the pigmentary signaling of the parent hormone, with reported mechanism themes including inhibition of NF-kB and MAP kinase signaling and reduced pro-inflammatory cytokine output. Supplied as an aqueous intranasal solution, 10mg total in 10mL delivering 80 metered sprays. For research use only.
Research Background
The published KPV literature is predominantly preclinical. Dalmasso and colleagues (Gastroenterology, 2008) reported that nanomolar KPV inhibited NF-kB and MAP kinase activation in intestinal epithelial and T cells and reduced chemically induced colitis in mice, and Kannengiesser and colleagues described comparable effects at least partly independent of melanocortin-1 receptor signaling. Other studies examined wound closure, immune-cell signaling, and antimicrobial activity in vitro. No published human clinical trials of KPV itself exist.
