Description
KPV is a tripeptide with the sequence Lys-Pro-Val, corresponding to residues 11-13 at the C-terminus of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH). Published work has characterized anti-inflammatory activity that appears largely separable from the pigmentary signaling of the parent hormone. Reported mechanism themes include inhibition of NF-kB and MAP kinase inflammatory signaling, reduced pro-inflammatory cytokine output, and cellular uptake through the di/tripeptide transporter PepT1, which is expressed in intestinal epithelium. Supplied as 500mcg tablets, 60 per container (30mg total). For research use only.
Research Background
The published KPV literature is predominantly preclinical. Dalmasso and colleagues (Gastroenterology, 2008) reported that nanomolar KPV inhibited NF-kB and MAP kinase activation in human intestinal epithelial and T cells, entered cells via PepT1, and reduced chemically induced colitis in mice when given orally. Later delivery studies built on that transporter route with nanoparticle and hydrogel systems aimed at inflamed colonic tissue. Separate lines of research examined wound closure, keratinocyte signaling, and antimicrobial activity in vitro. No published human clinical trials of KPV itself exist.
